A dozen students at Maryknoll High School received scholarships Sunday night, and not just for academic excellence.
It was the school’s annual Kekumano Award & Scholarship Dinner. The school said the awards are about spreading the spirit of philanthropy and fostering community service.
The top scholarship winner was junior Jenna Okura.
School president Perry Martin said “I think the biggest thing is that one of the factors for a student is to understand that community is built of people around them, and not just themselves.”
Maryknoll also honored Bob and Frances Bean with the Noblesse Oblige Service Award for helping many of Hawaii’s non-profits.
