A commanding officer at Marine Corps Base Hawaii has been relieved of his duties.

Col. Eric Schaefer was reassigned to another position Monday due to loss of trust and confidence in his ability to lead his command, officials said.

He had held the post since Aug. 13, 2014.

Col. Christopher B. Snyder, deputy commander, MCIPAC, will serve as interim commanding officer until a permanent replacement is named.
