An Australian visitor scored not one, but two big catches while fishing off Kewalo Basin Tuesday.
Jon Strippazon caught a 120-pound marlin, then, about a half-hour later, he reeled in a 686-pounder.
It was a 20-minute experience that he described as “epic.”
“To catch one marlin was a gift. To catch two was golden. It was unbelievable,” Strippazon said.
Boat captain Matthew Sullivan described the marlin as acrobatic, because it kept jumping out of the water.
As for those wishing for a similar experience, “you just gotta get out there,” he said. “You can’t catch them sitting at home. You can’t catch them sitting in the hotel room. You gotta get out here and give it a shot.”
Sullivan says the marlins will likely be sold at the fish auction.
