The man who died after being rescued from the Lanikai Pillbox hiking trail Sunday afternoon has been identified.
He was Joseph Randleman, 74, from South Orange, N.J.
Honolulu firefighters say they received the call at 3:21 p.m.
The caller said Randleman was experiencing a medical emergency on the trail.
Rescue crews arrived on scene at 3:28 p.m., and was at the patient’s side to administer CPR at 3:53 p.m.
Randleman was found unresponsive and was not breathing.
He was then airlifted from the hiking trail at 4:13 p.m. to a landing zone at Enchanted Lakes Elementary School.The patient was then transported to the hospital by Emergency Medical Services in critical condition at 4:21 p.m., but was pronounced dead there soon after, according to Honolulu police.
Police say the incident has been deemed an unattended death. The cause and manner of Randleman’s death may take between eight to 12 weeks.
