Lowe to represent UH at NCAA Track and Field Championships in Oregon

News

EUGENE, Ore. – Making the first Rainbow Wahine appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships since 2015, Murray, Ky. sophomore Lily Lowe is headed to Oregon to compete in the high jump during this week’s final championship event at historic Hayward Field.

At Sacramento State’s Hornet Stadium during the West Preliminary Round on May 24th, Lowe tied for seventh while doing enough to earn a qualifying mark at 5-10.75 (1.80m), which matched the height for six other performers.

As the first UH high jumper at the NCAA National Championships since Amber Kaufman claimed a National Championship in the event in 2010, Lowe enters the weekend ranked in a tie for eighth after consecutive career highs moved her top mark to 6-0.5 (1.84m) and to the Big West Championship. She enters the competition just 1.5 inches shy of national leaders Tatiana Gusin (Georgia) and Loretta Blaut (Cincinnati) at 6-2 (1.88m). In 2010, Kaufman won the national title with a jump of 6-1.25 (1.86m).

While the meet is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, June 6, the high jumpers won’t see their time arrive until Saturday, June 9. The women’s high jump final is set for 12:00 p.m. HT (3:00 p.m. PT) on Saturday at Hayward Field, internationally dubbed TrackTown USA.

A full schedule of events for the meet can be found on the Record Timing website, and live results from the event will be provided by the NCAA. ESPN Networks will be broadcasting a large number of the events, and the women’s high jump is slated to appear live on ESPN3.
