Where to get a free doughnut on National Donut Day

Local News

Several bakeries in Hawaii are offering free doughnuts in celebration of National Donut Day on Friday, June 5.

One free doughnut will be given to each customer while supplies last with a percentage of proceeds from sales of additional doughnuts to benefit The Salvation Army – Hawaiian and Pacific Islands Division.

On Oahu, doughnuts will be served from 6 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at all three Regal Bakery locations: Chinatown Cultural Plaza, McCully Shopping Center and near Honolulu International Airport (3040A Ualena Street).

On Kauai and Maui, doughnuts will be served from 6-11 a.m. at Daylight Donuts (4100 Rice Street #4, Lihue) and Krispy Kreme (433 Kele Street, Kahului) respectively.

Also on Oahu, The Salvation Army is partnering with Disabled American Veterans at Tripler Army Medical Center and will provide with free doughnuts from Regal Bakery in the Veterans Administration Benefits Building from 8 a.m. to noon, while supplies last.

The Salvation Army started National Donut Day 78 years ago as a way to raise funds and bring awareness to their social service programs.

It is held the first Friday of June each year and commemorates “Donut Lassies,” female volunteers for The Salvation Army in World War I, who provided writing supplies, stamps, clothes-mending and home-cooked meals to soldiers on the front lines. The Donut Lassies would fry doughnuts in the soldiers’ helmets on the front lines.Click here for more information about #HawaiiDonutDay.
