University of Hawaii football defensive end Kaaumoana Gifford has been reinstated to the team on a probationary basis, KHON2 sports director Rob DeMello has confirmed with head coach Nick Rolovich.

Gifford was suspended on April 12 following his arrest and subsequent charge of resisting arrest and harassment.

The red-shirt sophomore Kamehameha-Kapalama graduate will have to meet specific requisites with school and community service throughout the off-season to render himself eligible for fall training camp.

On the evening of Gifford’s arrest, fellow defensive lineman Kennedy Tulimasealii was also arrested and charged with resisting arrest, harassment, and assault. Tulimasealii has not been reinstated from his indefinite suspension.

As a red-shirt freshman in 2015, Gifford played in 12 games, totaling 4 starts with 22 tackles.
