Ward Village welcomes first residents to Waiea

Local News

Two years after breaking ground in Kakaako, the Howard Hughes Corp. welcomed its first residents to Ward Village Thursday.

Waiea is the first mixed-use residential tower in the 60-acre master-planned community. It overlooks Ala Moana Regional Park, and sits on the corner of Kamakee and Auahi streets.

“It’s part of the community that we’ve always talked about, and having residents in Ward Village along with the retail and the walkable community, that’s really what we’re celebrating today,” said Todd Apo, Howard Hughes Corp. vice president of community development.

“All of us here have a way to be a part of Honolulu and not have to be in traffic, dealing with infrastructure, and all those issues that really get solved by building more houses in the right way,” he added.

There are two-, three-, and four-bedroom units available starting at $4.3 million.

Michelin-star chef Nobuyuki Matsuhisa will open his flagship Honolulu restaurant on Waiea’s ground level in December.

Officials say dedicated bike lanes will be added to Auahi Street by the year’s end.
