A man was found shot dead in Punaluu today, and a Windward Oahu man is in custody in connection to the shooting that happened Friday night.
Just before 11:00p.m. Friday night, patrol officers responded to a Kamehameha Highway address, after witnesses reported hearing gunshots.
“Upon arrival they located evidence indicating that a person had been shot however the parties involved were not present,” said Honolulu Police Department’s Lt. Deena Thoemmes.
There was no one but the evidence that was recovered and the witness that called it in, she said.
Officers left the scene only to be called back again Saturday afternoon when a body was discovered.
“A witness reported finding a body of an adult male in the brush area near the Punaluu residence,” said Lt. Thoemmes.
She said it was the same residence where an argument and gunfire had broken out the night before and where officers were initially sent.
“It was determined that a male victim and a 43-year old male suspect were involved in an argument when the suspect fired multiple shots at the victim causing his death. The suspect then hid the body at a nearby location and fled the scene,” said Lt. Thoemmes.
Police said the incident occurred in front of the suspect’s home, and on Saturday the man was identified and arrested without incident.
Witnesses tell police an argument led up to the shooting.
Police said arrangements were made with District 4 officers to meet with him and was placed under arrest for murder in the 2nd degree where he remains in custody here at the main station pending charges.
HPD did not say if a weapon was recovered.
This is a developing story and will be updated when more details are available.
