Southwest Airlines has been issued a permit to use the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport.

The Department of Transportation wanted to issue the carrier a month-to-month permit so that Southwest could use airport space for its operations. The monthly rent will be $19,900.

The Department of Transportation got the approval in March from the Department of Land and Natural Resources to issue the permit.

Right now, Southwest is in the process of getting federal approval to fly across the Pacific Ocean.

In October, Southwest announced plans to begin selling tickets in 2018 for service to Hawaii. The airline will fly to the Hawaiian islands out of multiple locations in California, but officials have not yet said if there will be any interisland routes.

Service details will be announced at a later date.
