Pedestrian killed in Kapolei crash ‘appeared to be distracted,’ police say

Local News

Honolulu police are investigating a deadly pedestrian crash in Kapolei.

It happened at around 7:30 p.m. near Walmart.

According to police, a vehicle was traveling west on Farrington Highway. The driver did not see a pedestrian crossing southbound and hit her.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. She was 55 years old, according to Emergency Medical Services.

“As far as we know, the female was crossing out of the crosswalk, and appeared to be distracted as she was crossing,” said Lt. James Slayter, Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division.

Neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors in the crash.

This is the 85th traffic fatality in Hawaii so far this year.
