HONOLULU (KHON2) - A barricade situation on Maui ended peacefully after police arrested a man at the Harbor Lights condominium complex located in central Maui.
Police say it started as a civil matter around 11 p.m. last night.
A female reported she was assaulted in her apartment.
Police tried to make contact with the man, but he barricaded himself inside.
This morning, negotiators were able to talk the man down from the apartment and arrested him.
Police say 49-year-old Michael Soriano surrendered without incident.
He has no local address and was arrested for abuse of a family or household member and kidnapping.
During the incident, a text message was sent to students at University of Hawaii, Maui college, which shares a fence line with the apartment.
Police say there was no active shooter but the lockdown was implemented as a precaution.
They closed several buildings until an all clear was given at 8:10 a.m.
A Maui police officer tells us that the incident comes just ahead of an active shooter response training session planned for Friday.
