HONOLULU (KHON2) - Honolulu police say speed appears to be a factor in an early morning crash on the H-1 Freeway Saturday.
The crash happened about 1:30 a.m. near the Nimitz Highway off-ramp.
Police say a man was driving at a high rate of speed in the eastbound direction when he lost control of his vehicle and collided into a concrete pillar.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Honolulu medical examiner identified him as Joseph Caspino, 46, of Waianae.
It is unknown if drugs or alcohol are factors in the crash.
This is the 36th traffic fatality compared to 26 at the same time last year.
