The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s office has identified the man who died following a single-vehicle crash on Queen Emma Street Thursday.
He was Danii Thomas, 49, of Honolulu.
The crash happened at 3:13 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of School Street and Iolani Avenue.
According to police, Thomas was driving a pickup truck heading northbound when he veered off the road, collided with the curb, drove into the southbound lanes and hit a guardrail by the overpass.
He was wearing a seat belt.
“I’m sure he wasn’t conscious when he hit that rail,” said witness April Hisatake. “I was calling 9-1-1 and a couple of men stopped and they were trying to give him some aid.”
Thomas was taken to Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition and died at around 4:09 p.m.
Police say he may have suffered a medical condition prior to crashing.
All lanes of Queen Emma Street on the bridge near Iolani Avenue were blocked off until around 5:40 p.m.
