HONOLULU (KHON2) - While public school students are out on spring break next week, working hours will be extended in the morning and evening for a Maui County repaving project on Lipoa Street in Kihei.
The road serves traffic going to and from Kihei Elementary and Lokelani Intermediate schools. Students will be on spring recess from Monday, March 18, to Friday, March 22.
The extended hours for contractor Hi Built will be from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday for spring break only. Beginning the week of March 25, work hours will return to normal hours from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.
The repaving work on Lipoa Street is from its intersection with Piilani Highway to South Kihei Road.
The repaving work is part of a larger, nearly $4.7 million project to make roadway improvements to Kulanihakoi Street, East Waipuilani Road and East Welakahao Road. Other work includes replacing concrete sidewalks, curbs, gutters, curb ramps and utility collars. The contractor also is installing new striping, markers and signs.
The project is targeted for completion in late April.
