A new government report is outlining the effects of pesticide use on Kauai.
The report was compiled by a group of doctors, scientists and agricultural leaders and it makes clear there was very little data available to base their findings on.
But the key things they did find: There was no evidence that pesticides used by seed companies caused health problems, nor did the pesticide use harm native plants and animals.
However, the report did find Kauai seed companies using more “restrictive use pesticides” than mainland counterparts.
The report is urging the state to pass new pesticide laws and regulations as well as increase monitoring of pesticide effects on the environment and our health.
If you want to comment on the findings and recommendations, you have until April 8 to do so before a final report is issued.
