HONOLULU (KHON2) - An Oahu man says he almost went to Borderline Bar in California on the night a deadly mass shooting took place.
Danny Casler runs the Facebook page "My Kailua." He says he's in California visiting friends, and they suggested going out for some drinks.
He thought about it, but ended up staying in with family, and it's good that he did.
Twelve people were killed before the shooter, Ian Long, apparently turned the gun on himself Wednesday night.
"We ended up staying home that night. That's when we started getting all of the alerts a little later, right before bed," Casler said, "and in the morning, (my friend) had told me, 'Wow, that was really crazy, because that was the bar I was going to recommend that we go have drinks at.'"
Casler says the neighborhood he's staying in is the same neighborhood Long lived in.
Long also used to live in Hawaii, while stationed at Marine Corps Base Hawaii in Kaneohe.
