Husband of UFC fighter Rachael Ostovich appears in court on assault charge

HONOLULU (KHON2) - The husband of UFC fighter Rachael Ostovich returned to court Wednesday.

Arnold Berdon III pled not guilty to second degree assault.

Berdon allegedly attacked Ostovich in November, breaking her orbital bone and causing other serious injuries.

Despite her injuries, Ostovich still plans to fight Paige VanZant on January 19, 2019 for UFC Fight Night in Brooklyn, New York.

In an exclusive interview with KHON2 Sports Director Rob DeMello, Ostovich explainer her motivation as to why she intends to compete despite the injury.

"Although this is a very difficult time for me and my family, I felt that this fight in January was important. I felt that it was extremely important to me to follow through with it and not only for me but for my daughter and other people that might be going through similar situations," Ostovich said. "I want to take a stand against domestic violence and show others that it's okay to come out and speak about it and not be quieted."

Berdon's trial is scheduled for January 21, 2019.

He is free after posting bail of $75,000.
