Hawaii Air National Guard to assist in Southwest Asia terror fight

Local News

More than 50 members of the Hawaii Air National Guard have deployed to Southwest Asia to help the fight against terror.

The airmen left Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam this weekend for an air base in Qatar.

They are part of the 154th Wing, and will be gone for four months to take part in an air expeditionary force rotation battling the terrorist group Daesh.

Officials say they will be primarily involved in aerial refueling, which makes it possible to extend the range and persistence of Coalition air operations in Iraq and Syria.
