Local musicians come together to help Willie K. during cancer battle

Local musicians gathered at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikiki Tuesday to perform in a benefit concert for multi-Na Hoku Hanohano award-winner Willie K.

It’s been two months since Willie K. revealed he was diagnosed with limited stage small cell carcinoma in his lung.

He’s undergone multiple sessions of chemotherapy, but remains upbeat, hopeful and thankful for the support.

“Willie is amazed that so many people come together for him,” said Tihati Productions CEO Cha Thompson. “He’s a proud man. He was gonna beef this out himself, but when I reported to him that it was not as difficult as I thought it would be, he almost cried cause he felt the love with other entertainers in the town.”

“Me being in 30s, I grew up listening to Willie K. music, his cassettes were part of our family and our lifestyle,” said fellow musician Raiatea Helm.

Willie K. has been documenting his journey on his Facebook and Instagram pages.

He had his last chemo session two weeks ago.
