Beyond our beautiful beaches and coastlines lies a spooky side to the history of Hawaii that includes folklore, legends and ghost stories.
Local storyteller Lopaka Kapanui conducts ghost tours across Oahu, leading guests to some of the darkest and scariest places on the island.
Mentored by the late famed storyteller Glen Grant, Kapanui leads people who have chosen to experience the “Mysteries of Hawaii.”
On the night before Halloween, Kapanui visited the KHON2 News studio to share the most haunted places in Hawaii.
1. The burial mound on the grounds of Iolani Palace: Kapanui shares a story and photo that “thoroughly creeped” him out.
2. The Kawaiahao Church Cemetery: See that figure in the distance? Kapanui says when the photo was taken, no one was standing there.
3. The Pali Lookout: The rule is you can never take pork over the Pali. Click on the video to see what happened when one man defied the rule.
