Improvement projects at two Leeward Coast parks have been completed, and the impacted facilities are now open to the public.
At Waianae District Park, the second floor of the Shinyei Nakamine Gymnasium Complex is now open following a renovation project to repair the leaking roof and replace water-damaged facilities.
The project included re-roofing, repairing water damage to the second floor, replacing the gym’s power roof ventilators, and upgrading repaired light fixtures to LED.
During the project, the ground floor of the facility remained open to the public. The final cost of the project was $581,000.
At Maili Beach Park, improvement projects to renovate the park comfort stations are now complete.
The most recent project involved repairs to comfort stations 4 and 5, located on the north end of the beach park. This included: replacing plumbing fixtures, piping and sewer lines, flooring upgrades, exterior sidewalk replacement, replacing damaged wood beams and decking, improving the comfort station lighting, painting, new signs, and installation of security screens and gates.
This nearly $490,000 project followed a similar improvement project which addressed comfort stations 1, 2, and 3 from 2015 to 2017.
