Large surf to impact north and west shores this weekend

News

An active weather pattern over the north Pacific will bring a series of large northwest swells to the Hawaiian Islands starting Friday night.

The first of series of northwest swells will be the largest and long-period forerunners are expected to begin filling in Friday night.

Surf is expected to quickly build into the extra large category Saturday morning and peak near giant levels Saturday evening into Saturday night, easily exceeding warning levels across exposed shores

Daytime sea breezes and nighttime land breezes will dominate the weather scene for most areas through the weekend and into next week.

Clouds and showers will be somewhat limited, as strong high pressure aloft keeps our air rather stable. The showers that do occur will tend to favor windward areas during the nights and mornings.

Some afternoon or evening clouds, along with a shower or two, are expected over interior and leeward areas as well.

Low pressure passing north of the islands toward the middle of next week will bring kona winds and an increase in showers.
