UPDATE: Kona Community Hospital has announced it has lifted visitor restrictions following a scabies outbreak.
The closure was deemed an “aggressive measure” to protect patients and staff from potential exposure to infection, which happened in November.
There were exceptions in place for patients on the Obstetrics Unit as well as for pediatric surgery patients.
All outpatient services remained open.
The scabies outbreak was first confirmed on Nov. 19, when a number of individuals reported that they were experiencing similar symptoms.
