Kitten Baby Shower aims to find homes for animals in need

An adorable event on Maui aims to save some lives.

The Maui Humane Society will host a “Kitten Baby Shower” Saturday, March 2 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

It will include information about how to foster baby kittens during the upcoming kitten season. Last year, the shelter placed 967 kittens in foster homes during the peak of kitten season which runs from March through September. 160 of those kittens had to be bottle fed and required specialized care.

“Fostering is generally for animals that aren’t quite adoptable yet so those are the kittens that haven’t been sprayed or neutered, they’re not old enough for maybe they’re sick,” said Nikki Russell, the Maui Humane Society’s Foster Coordinator. “So we put them out to foster homes where they can get nice and healthy.”

Again the kitten baby shower is Saturday March 2, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Maui Humane Society. There will also be games, prizes and cake for all.
