HONOLULU (KHON2) — From high school sports to city hall Honolulu businessman Keith Amemiya announced Tuesday, he’s running for mayor.
Amemiya is currently an attorney and the senior vice president of Island Holdings Inc., the parent company of Island Insurance.
He previously served as the executive director of the Hawaii High School Athletic Association.
“I’m announcing my campaign next to a sports field because sports have always played an important role in my life,” said Amemiya. “Sports teaches us values such as teamwork, perseverance and personal accountability.”
Amemiya says he plans to tackle the homeless crisis, lack of affordable housing, and he wants to turn Honolulu into a smart city.
