Kawaii Kon kicks off at Hawaii Convention Center

News

Hawaii’s largest anime convention kicked off Friday at the Hawaii Convention Center.

More than 12,000 participants are expected to attend the three-day event.

Celebrity guests include voice actors from American and Japanese animation, artists, YouTubers, and musical acts from Japan and the U.S. There will also be video games and a karaoke competition.

“One of the amazing things about Kawaii Kon is that we have very dedicated costumers here, so you can see everything from your favorite anime show,” said event administrator Roy Bann.

We found Matthew Alejo cosplaying as No-Face from Spirited Away.

“I cosplay because it’s something that I love to do,” he explained. “There’s a community behind this that loves you so much, and no matter what happens in this community, they always support each other. The amount of love in this is unbelievable, and that’s why I cosplay every single time I can.”

Kawaii Kon runs through Sunday. Click here for more information.
