Kauai’s Hanalei Bay reopens after shark spotted near shoreline

News

Hanalei Bay was reopened Friday after Ocean Safety officials determined the water was safe for swimming.

The bay was closed Thursday after a shark was spotted in the water.

Lifeguards said the shark was about 6-feet long and was caught breaching and thrashing near the shoreline.

Beachgoers are reminded to stay out of brown and turbid water as a safety precaution.

Ocean Safety officials advise swimming or snorkeling at Poipu Beach where the water clarity is better.
