The Kauai Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section will be hosting a free car seat safety inspection on Friday in Lihue.

KPD’S certified child passenger seat technicians will be there to make any necessary recommendations or adjustments to your car seat.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, car crashes are the leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 13. Research has shown that properly installed child safety seats can reduce the risk of infant and toddlers.

It is the state law that all children under the age of four ride in a safety seat and children under the age of eight ride in a passenger restraint or booster seat.

Any violators could face up to a $500 fine as well as required child passenger safety course.

The event will be held on Friday at 4 to 6 p.m. at Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School.
