The Kauai Fire Commission is searching for a new fire chief, following the retirement of Chief Robert Westerman after 20 years of service.

“Thank you to Chief Westerman for his dedication and service to our community, and for setting a high standard for the Kauai Fire Department and our firefighters,” said Thomas Nizo, Fire Commission chair. “We wish him the best of luck in retirement.”

The Fire Commission continues its search for a new fire chief, and is confident that until such time as the commission appoints a new chief, the fire department is in good hands with the leadership that Chief Westerman leaves behind.

“The Fire Commission is committed to choose the right person to the lead the Kauai Fire Department,” Fire Commission Chair Nizo added.

The Fire Commission meets on the first Monday of each month in Meeting Room 2A/2B at the Lihue Civic Center at 2 p.m.
