Kapolei Public Library sets reopening date as flooding repairs continue

News

The Kapolei Public Library plans to reopen on Tuesday, October 30, exactly one week after the flooding that damaged the building’s first floor.

Officials say an air conditioning cooling pipe burst, causing water to spill from the ceiling onto the building’s first floor.

People inside the library were cleared out as Honolulu Fire Department crews were called in to help shut off the water.

Crews used vacuums and buckets to remove what water they could.

Library officials say a restoration company has been contacted to help in the next steps of the clean up and repair process.

It’s unknown at this time just how costly the damage is.

Because of the flooding, the library has been forced to cancel its Spooktacular Halloween Party scheduled for Wednesday night.

The event was expected to draw at least 500 people to the library.

All programs scheduled during the closure are also canceled.

Fines for books and materials due during the closure period will be waived.
