Hawai’i’s outstanding principals were honored Sunday and one was named the 2016 National Distinguished Principal.
That person is Kapolei Middle School’s Bruce Naguwa.
He was among seven principal and vice principal nominees honored by the Hawai’i Elementary and Middle Schools Administrators Association at the Hale Koa hotel.
Naguwa will attend a celebration in Washington, D.C. in October, along with awardees from the other 49 states.
“I think all of you in this room play a vital part of really building the young men and women of today, and I want to thank all of you for that because that really is not easy,” Naguwa said in front of his peers moments after accepting his award.
“It is a difficult one and it is an honor to represent all of you today, so again, thank you very much,” he added,
Naguwa has been an administrator for more than 28 years.
