A building fire that ignited Monday night in the Puu Alii town home area was intentionally set.
That’s according to Honolulu Fire Department investigators, who handed the case over to police.
The fire was reported at around 5:45 p.m. at 46-058 Aliianela Place.
Crews arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the roof of a single-story recreational building on the property.
Fire officials say it took about an hour and a half to fully extinguish the flames.
“It was very red, just racing red straight up in the air, coming out of every hole in the building, and then it got on the roof. Then finally two trucks came up on the driveway here,” said witness Timothy Kodysh.
Damage is estimated at $360,000 to the structure and $20,000 to its contents.
No one was hurt.
