HONOLULU (KHON2) — People in Kaimuki are launching an effort to get more trees in the neighborhood.
Saturday, July 27 was the kick off for the efforts.
Community members gathered to talk about what they’d like to see.
“It’s really important it come from the community,” said Dan Dinell, president for Trees for Honolulu’s Future. “That they sign up and say ‘I want a street tree. I’m going to take care of it.’ And really turn it into a legacy 10 to 20, 30 years from now. That’s going to be a wonderful place.
According to Trees for Honolulu, Oahu has 23 percent tree canopy coverage. Kaimuki has 17 percent tree coverage.
The city, Envision Kaimuki, Smart Trees Pacific and the Outdoor Circle are also helping with the project.
