‘It’s Only a Play’ heads to Hawaii Theatre for limited benefit run

The smash hit comedy “It’s Only a Play” is currently breaking box office records on Broadway.

Now, the show by four-time Tony-Award-winning playwright Terrence McNally is coming to Hawaii.

A limited benefit run of 11 performances is scheduled at Hawaii Theatre June 18-28.

Broadway and television star Linda Purl, KHON2’s Joe Moore and Cathy Foy top a stellar ensemble cast that includes Paul Mitri, Tom Holowach, Ryan Wuestewald and Desmond Gilla.

New York director Logan Reed is coming to Hawaii to direct this celebration of theater at its best and actors at their worst:

It’s opening night of Peter Austin’s new play as he anxiously awaits to see if his show is a hit. With his career on the line, he shares his big First Night with his best friend, a television star, his novice producer, his doped-up diva, his genius director, a lethal drama critic, and a fresh-off-the-bus coat check attendant on his first night in Manhattan. It’s alternately raucous, ridiculous and tender-and proves that sometimes the biggest laughs happen off stage.
