KHON2 has confirmed that ‘Iolani boy’s basetkball head coach Dean Shimamoto has resigned.

Shimamoto had coached the Raiders for the past 10 seasons. He told the school and his team of his departure on Friday, citing his desire to spend more time with his family and young children.

The Raiders lost in the semifinals of the state tournament this year. Shimamoto is a three-time state champion with ‘Iolani. Those titles came in 2010, 2014, and 2016.

Shimamoto said he had been considering retiring for some time, but had not made a decision until after this season ended.
