Emotions are high at Hawaii County mayoral candidate Harry Kim’s viewing party.
Kim has the early lead with 9,952 votes, or 49.8 percent. Wally Lau comes in second with 5,243 votes or 26.2 percent, and Peter Hoffman is third with 2,268 votes or 11.3 percent.
“One of the supporters came up and started crying and hugging. Naturally, you feel good about it, but you feel so good about your supporters. That overwhelms you, feeling good for them. That’s what I felt,” he told KHON2’s Manolo Morales.
However, Kim says he isn’t confident about a win until “I know what I know” and “we’ll see what the rest of the night brings.”
More and more “I’m realizing how special of a phenomenon I just went through and am going through,” he added.
