As Hurricane Norman nears the islands, surf for the east shores have continued to rise into warning levels.
For Thursday east facing shores of Hawaii Island and Maui could be 12-18 feet. East facing shores for Oahu, Molokai and Kauai will be 10-15 feet.
Starting late Thursday, the islands could see a boost in windward showers into the weekend. At this point there are no flooding issued expected should Norman continue to track away from the state.
Muggy conditions are expected this weekend as Hurricane Norman is expected to block the trade wind flow. Light and variable winds take over through early next week.
Hurricane Olivia maintained strength today with winds at 100 mph. Olivia is expected to cross into the Central Pacific on Saturday as a tropical storm. If the forecast holds, the islands could see Olivia as a tropical storm near the islands starting Tuesday.
HURRICANE NORMAN: Norman is moving toward the west-northwest near 9 mph. This motion is
expected to continue tonight, followed by a northwestward motion on Thursday and Friday. On the forecast track, the center of Norman will pass 200 to 300 miles to the northeast of the main Hawaiian
Islands on Thursday and Friday.
Maximum sustained winds are near 120 mph with higher gusts. Norman is a category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Some weakening is forecast during the next 48
hours, although Norman is expected to remain a hurricane through Friday.
Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 30 miles from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 115 miles.
HURRICANE OLIVIA: Olivia is moving toward the west-northwest near 14 mph , and this motion with some increase in forward speed is expected during the next couple of days. A gradual turn toward the west is expected over the weekend.
Maximum sustained winds remain near 100 mph with higher gusts. Some slight weakening is forecast during the next few days.
Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 115 miles.
