Honolulu Hale to be illuminated in colors of France’s Tricolour

Honolulu Hale will be illuminated tonight in the colors of France — blue, white and red — at the request of Mayor Kirk Caldwell.

This gesture is to suppress solidarity with the people of Paris following following the fire that damaged the historic Cathedral of Notre Dame.

“Even though we are halfway around the world, we feel the unimaginable loss of not just a building, but a place that is a culmination of history, art, architecture, wars, revolution, and culture,” said Caldwell. “Buildings tell stories about the lives of people throughout time, and Notre Dame has a life of her own. It wasn’t just the burning of a building, but much like the loss of a person.”

The illumination of Honolulu Hale in teal in recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) will resume on the evening of Wednesday, April 17 and last through Saturday, April 20.
