Honolulu police and Crimestoppers is asking for the public’s help in finding a man who was once arrested for stealing a car with a man’s house keys and garage door opener inside.
They are on the search for Joshua Espinoza.
“In three cases the first on May 25, 2007, the complainant was contacted by her neighbor that her garage door was open,” said CrimeStoppers Sgt. Kim Buffett. “She contacted her son who was at work went out to his vehicle and saw it had been stolen with the house keys and garage door opener in the vehicle.”
Then key evidence was found that lead to Espinoza’s arrest.
“Upon arriving home she cleaned the house and found a cigarette butt that she turned over to police for evidence,” Buffett added. “The cigarette butt was analyzed for DNA and a match came back to Espinoza. He was located and arrested for burglary in the first degree.”
He was also arrested in 2010 for shoplifting and in 2014 for drugs.
He’s now wanted on three $50,000 warrants in connection with those cases for not showing up for a court hearing last month to modify his probation.
“He does have 11 prior convictions and is known to frequent the Waianae and Waipahu areas,” Buffett said.
