Hawaii’s Debate: Constitutional amendment to fund public education

Question to Gov. David Ige, D, and Andria Tupola, R, candidates for governor:

One of the hotly debated issues on the ballot this year is the constitutional amendment that allows for a property tax to help fund education. Do you support this amendment? Why or why not?

If the amendment passes, legislators must still craft a bill that adds the tax to fund education. Will you pledge to ensure that any funding is in fact additional funding, and not a replacement for a portion of existing state money already budgeted for schools?

Question to Josh Green, D, and Marissa Kerns, R, candidates for lieutenant governor:

We want to know your position on the constitutional amendment for education as well. Do you support the amendment voters will be deciding on, and why or why not?
