Hawaii’s B.J. Penn to be inducted into UFC Hall of Fame

It was never a matter of if, but when.

The UFC announced this afternoon that Hilo native B.J. Penn is heading to the Hall of Fame.

The former UFC lightweight and welterweight champion is considered to be the greatest lightweight the sport has ever offered.

He is one of only two fighters in UFC history to win belts in multiple weight classes, joining Randy Couture.

“The Prodigy” rode off into the sunset last summer following a defeat to Frankie Edgar, ending his career with a 16-10-2 career record.

Penn is expected to be inducted in July.
