Repair work is ongoing after a fire broke out in a manhole in downtown Honolulu.
It happened at around 1 p.m. at the intersection of Alakea and Merchant streets.
According to Hawaiian Electric, crews responded to a report of smoke coming out of the manhole, and used carbon dioxide to extinguish the fire.
The cause remains under investigation.
No outages were reported as customers were switched to a backup circuit.
Repair work required the following traffic closures: the far right lane of Alakea Street from Queen to King streets, Merchant Street from Alakea to Richards streets.
