Former Hawaii man killed in Washington house fire

A fire in Washington state has claimed the life of a former Hawaii man.

On Sept. 13, Ashley Wise says her husband, Tyson Moses Wise, was in his car when it caught fire in their garage. Flames quickly spread to and destroyed the rest of the house.

“He just turned it on, you know, he revved it once or twice, and then all of a sudden, it was in flames,” she said.

Ashley says she and her two young children were able to escape, but Tyson did not.

“I lost my partner, my husband. He’s the reason that I have my kids. Like I didn’t know how to continue on. I have support, but for me, it was like, why did this happen to me? We just lost our son. Why would this happen to me losing my husband?” she said.

The family hopes to return to Hawaii to spread Tyson’s ashes off Makaha.

“We want to bring him back to where he belongs,” Wise said.

What caused the car to go up in flames remains under investigation.
