HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. (WFTS) — Plastic rings have been used to hold six-packs of beer and soda together for decades. But they can be fatal to the animal kingdom.
Now, a Florida brewery has come up with an edible alternative that helps the environment, and may put an end to these old plastic holders proven deadly to wildlife.
The Saltwater Brewery in Delray Beach, Florida designed biodegradable rings made from the by-products in the beer making process.
Some beer distributors like the Craft Beer Cellar have been replacing the plastic rings with a hard plastic carrier that is reusable. But word of an edible holder is all the rage among their beer pals.
One obstacle may be cost.
The company hopes if more breweries sign on, production costs will go down.
Right now, Saltwater Brewing is perfecting the product in the Delray Beach area. They hope to manufacture 400-thousand of them in the near future.
Innovative, and for the marine wildlife, life saving.
