Flood advisory posted for parts of the Big Island Thursday night, more rain to come Friday

News

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a flood advisory for parts of Hawaii Island through 9:30 Thursday night.

At 628 PM HST, rain gage reports indicated heavy rain falling near Orchidlands Estates. The Mountain View gage reported rain was falling at a rate of 2 inches per hour.

Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to Hilo, Hawaiian Acres, Orchidlands Estates, Glenwood, Pepeekeo, Keaau, Volcano, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Pahoa, Honomu, Mountain View and Papaikou.

A cold front to the northwest of the islands will strengthen as it moves towards the islands.

The front is expected to reach Kauai by Friday morning, and move down the island chain, pushing south of the Big Island on Sunday. Showers will accompany the front, with cool, dry air moving in behind the front.

A new high will build in behind the front, returning trade winds next week.

Weather should be near perfect for Bruno Mars Saturday and Sunday shows.  Temperatures will be dropping slightly so bring a light jacket.
