Fisherman critically injured after being swept away by wave in East Oahu

A fisherman was hospitalized in critical condition Thursday after he was swept away by a wave.

It happened at around 1:45 p.m. at Bamboo Ridge near the Halona Blow Hole.

Ocean Safety lifeguards responded on rescue watercraft and found the 56-year-old man unresponsive in the water.

Lifeguards rescued the patient and took him to Sandy Beach Park where they started CPR with the assistance of the Honolulu Fire Department.

Emergency Medical Services arrived and took over treatment before rushing him to the hospital.

Officials say conditions were rough with four-foot waves.
