First Hawaiian Bank employee stabbed to death, allegedly by son

Kauai police have arrested Louis Landsman, 34, on Thursday for second degree murder after authorities say he stabbed and killed a woman at First Hawaiian Bank in Lihue.

The victim has been identified as Charlene Landsman, 69, of Kapaa.

According to preliminary reports, the man walked into the bank at approximately 1:15 p.m. and approached the woman, believed to be his mother and an employee of the bank, and fatally stabbed her. 

He then fled the scene on foot.

The woman to Wilcox Hospital in critical condition where she was pronounced dead.

A short time later, the suspect was located in the bank parking lot where police apprehended him and took him into custody.

Louis Landsman remains in police cellblock. 

Bail has not yet been set.

This case remains under police investigation.

“Law enforcement has apprehended the suspect that fatally attacked one of our employees in our Lihue Branch.  They have closed off the building and initiated their criminal investigation.  What happened this afternoon was a tragic loss of life. The bank says it is cooperating with authorities.

The Lihue branch will remain closed until law further notice.
