Fire units extinguish a two-alarm fire at Makakilo townhouse complex

The Honolulu Fire Department extinguished a two-alarm fire at a two-story townhouse complex on 92-1210 Palahia Street in Makakilo. 

The first unit arrived 10 minutes after the call came in at 10:04 a.m. The responders found the residence with light smoke coming from the rear of unit V106.

Six units total staffed with 22 personnel responded to the address. 

The fire was brought under control at 10:18 a.m. and was extinguised at 11:26 a.m.

According to HFD, the unit was vacant at the time of the fire. 

Neighbors from the above unit were alerted of the fire by a smoke alarm activation and an odor of smoke. 

All five adult females from unit V206 escaped safely. 

The fire is currently under investigation and the cause has yet to be determined. 

Fire damages are estimated at $28,000 to the unit and $2,500 to its contents. 

The residence did have working smoke detectors, but it did not have fire sprinklers.
