Firefighters were called to a house fire at a Kahuhipa Street address before 8 p.m. Thursday.
The HFD unit arrived at 7:54 p.m. to find a two-story, multiple family townhouse with smoke emanating from the top of the residence.
A fire was located in a second-floor bedroom and brought under control by 8:06 p.m. and fully extinguished by 8:12 p.m.
It was reported that two persons were home at the time and were alerted to the fire by the odor of smoke. All occupants were able to evacuate the structure prior to the arrival of HFD personnel.
An adult male in his 70s was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and transferred to Emergency Medical Services personnel by 8:18 p.m. HFD personnel offered to contact the American Red Cross on the occupants’ behalf but they declined.
The fire remains under investigation and the cause has yet to be determined. Damage has been estimated to be $60,000 to the structure and $10,000 to its contents.
